Riaz Siddiqi

Mr Siddiqi is a Founder and Managing Partner of Denham Capital Management, a private equity firm managing around $4.2 billion in assets. He is responsible for Denham’s Power market investment activities. Until June 2004, he was Managing Director of Canam, Inc. a firm that was associated with a large fund as it sole client, providing it transaction sourcing, due diligence and valuation services in the energy sector. Until June of 2003 Riaz was President and CEO of Current Capital, a Harvard Management Company affiliate, and Capstone Global Energy, LLC – a firm that provided advice, deal structuring and intermediation services to the energy industry in North America to private equity funds and energy service companies, and to European energy companies.
Prior to founding Capstone in 1999 he held several executive level positions at Cinergy Corp, an energy service company that serves customer in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Over the course of his five-year tenure from 1995 to 1999 at Cinergy Corp., Riaz planned and executed several transactions in electricity. These transactions had value of over several hundred millions of dollars. He developed several lines of businesses in the retail and wholesale power markets. He participated in several acquisitions. Notable among those was Midlands Electricity, one of the largest retail electricity companies in England.
Until 1995, Riaz was Manager, Market Management research for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). Under his management, he conducted market experiments in real-time pricing of electricity for large retail customers and their monopoly electric suppliers.
From 1979 to 1989 Riaz held positions of increasing responsibility at Southern Company, San Diego Gas and Electric (now Sempra), Georgia Power Company, in the finance and power marketing areas. He has been a strategic adviser to Equitek Capital, a venture capital fund.
Riaz serves on the board of Development in Literacy, an organization aimed at promoting literacy in rural areas in Pakistan. He is a licensed private pilot and he flies for Angel flight, a volunteer organization of pilots that arranges for patients to be flown to and from their homes to cities where they can receive medical care. Riaz holds an M.B.A in Finance and BS degree in Electrical Engineering.
